Liew Seng Tat 劉城達
Emerged as a young filmmaker with a unique comedic voice soon after he graduated from the Multimedia University, where he majored in 3D Animation. His 2007 debut feature FLOWER IN THE POCKET swept multiple awards and prizes in numerous international film festivals including Busan, Rotterdam, Fribourg and Pesaro.
The unique comedic sensibilities of the film led to Liew being invited to participate in Cannes Cinefondation (2008), the Torino Film Lab (2010) and the Sundance Screenwriters Lab (2011).
Liew's second feature film LELAKI HARAPAN DUNIA (2015) built on the success of Flower In The Pocket by gaining a nomination at the Locarno International Film Festival and winning the Special Jury Prize at the Fajr International Film Festival. Domestically, the film swept 5 major awards at the Malaysia Film Festival Awards, including Best Film and Best Director. Armed with a childlike sensibility that reveals deeper truths than his simple stories let on, Seng Tat is regarded as one of the most promising filmmaking talents in Malaysia.
